Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to know about my building before I initiate a green roof installation?
You will need to know the slope, the structural loading capacity, and existing materials of the roof, as well as the nature of any drainage systems, waterproofing, and electrical and water supply in place. You should also consider who would have access to it and what kind of sun and wind exposure the roof gets.
Can I retrofit my existing roof?
Yes, due to the lightweight nature of Junglefy's Green Roof system you can now retrofit flat or pitched roofs. Some modification may be required and any existing waterproofing will need to be assessed.
What type of water proofing is used and how long does it last?
We use a water proofing system called Evalon that was developed in Germany specifically for the green roof industry and has been used successfully around the world. It has a 25 year certification but could easily be double this as green roofs are renowned for greatly extending the working life of the waterproofing membrane.
How much does it cost?
The cost of a green roof varies depending on the type and factors such as the depth of growing medium, selected plants, size of installation, use of irrigation, and whether they are to be accessible on inaccessible - intensive, semi-extensive or extensive. Intensive green roofs typically require greater investment but confer the benefits of accessibility. Junglefy extensive green roof systems start at $180/m2. Please contact us to organise a consultation.
What are the maintenance requirements of a green roof?
Maintenance requirements will vary depending on the type of roof installed. Extensive green roofs should be designed to only need maintenance on a quarterly basis at most. Intensive green roofs will have different maintenance requirements. Slow release fertilisers or inline fertigation will feed the roof. The amount of fertilising will reduce over time as the organic matter in the soil builds up.
