Green walls or vertical gardens have travelled far from the ivy or ficus growing up the wall. Modern green walls are constructed in a number of different ways whether they are modular or built in situ as one cohesive system.  Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages and choosing the right one will depend on the application and the environment where the wall is being installed. The recent developments in the green wall systems have also enabled growing vertical gardens in indoor environments.  These systems run in essentially the same manner as the outdoor systems but will often require supplemental lighting.
